Trade-in valuation

What to pay for a trade, from the cars around you.

Enter the trade’s make, model, year, trim and mileage. AXLE builds a retail estimate from comparable cars listed near you, adjusts it for mileage and condition, and takes off your reconditioning, carrying and target gross to reach an indicative max bid.

Why it matters

Trade values that cannot be explained lose deals.

A trade-in number is half the deal for many buyers, and it is the number they question most. A figure that comes from a guide with no local context is hard to defend, and a figure that is too generous gives away the gross on the car being sold.

AXLE builds the trade value step by step from the local market: what similar cars ask nearby, how mileage moves that figure, and what it will cost you to recondition, hold and retail the car. Each step is on the page.

What it does

Trade-in valuation: what it gives your team.

  • Market median ask

From comparable listings near you, for the same model, year range and trim.

  • Mileage adjustment

The retail estimate is adjusted to the trade’s actual mileage and model year.

  • Condition assumption

Excellent, Good, Fair or Rough sets the reconditioning the trade is expected to need.

  • Your costs

Reconditioning, carrying and fees, and target gross, each editable for this trade.

  • Your own wholesale figure

Add a wholesale number from your auction account to see it beside the market-derived bid.

  • Asking by mileage

A chart of every comparable car’s asking against its mileage, with your trade marked.

How it works

From question to next step.

  1. 01

    Describe the trade

Make, model, year, trim and mileage, and the condition you see.

  2. 02

    Check the market

Read the median ask and the comparable cars behind it.

  3. 03

    Apply your costs

Confirm recon, carrying and the gross you need on the car.

  4. 04

    Take it to the desk

Open Desking with the trade value in place.

Questions

Trade-in valuation: common questions.

This figure is a market-derived estimate, not a certified appraisal. It does not account for condition, title status or local demand beyond the data shown. The offer you make is your decision and your responsibility.

Does AXLE give wholesale values?

No. AXLE builds a market-derived estimate from retail asking prices; you can add your own wholesale figure beside it.

How is condition handled?

Choose Excellent, Good, Fair or Rough and the reconditioning assumption follows; you can override it.

Can I use the value in a deal?

Yes. Open Desking from the trade page and the value is carried into the deal.

Is the value an offer to the customer?

It is a figure to inform your offer. The offer you make is your decision.

Your next step

Put the whole deal in context.
