Inventory health / Holding costs

Aged inventory & faster inventory turns

An ageing car needs a diagnosis, not a reflex discount.

Cars age for different reasons: stuck in recon, poorly merchandised, priced above the market or simply in a slow segment. AXLE separates those causes so each car gets the fix it actually needs.

The challenge

Why discounting is the wrong first move

The usual answer to an ageing car is a price cut, applied on a schedule. But a car that is still waiting for reconditioning will not sell at any price, a car with three photos will not sell because it is cheaper, and a car in a segment where every lot is ageing may not be overpriced at all.

A good aged-inventory review asks the questions in order: is the car ready, is it presented well, how is it priced against the market, and what is it costing to keep? AXLE puts the answer to each on the same screen.

The workflow

How AXLE handles it.

  1. 01

    Find the ageing cars

Sort Inventory by days on lot and compare each car with the average for the same model in your market.

  2. 02

    Check readiness

Confirm the car is out of recon and has complete photos and a clean description.

  3. 03

    Check price position

Open Comps for the car’s rank among like-for-like listings nearby.

  4. 04

    Weigh the holding cost

Compare the cost of another 30 days with the price change being considered, then decide.

What counts as aged inventory?

Each store sets its own line, often 45, 60 or 90 days. AXLE shows days on lot beside the model’s market average, so you can see whether a car is slow or its segment is.

Does AXLE recommend wholesale?

AXLE gives you the evidence (readiness, price position and holding cost); the decision to retail, reprice or wholesale is yours.

Where do holding costs come from?

From the carrying cost and floor-plan rate you set in Settings, applied to each car’s days on lot.
